Historio.us is an easy to use bookmark application. Even though this sounds like a simple enough task, Historious makes it even simpler. The user only has to go to the Historious website and drag and drop the small Historious button to their browser. While browsing, the user can click the button to remember their current location for later. When the user wants to reference the site, they simply enter a word from the site into the Historious search tool. The tool searches their history and retrieves the entry so they can share it or review it again. Historious also keeps cached versions of each page the user Historifies so they can see it exactly as it was when they marked it. Switching to Historious is also easy. Users can upload bookmarks from Delicious and other similar services. Every title, tag and date is imported along with the link.Show more screenshots »
Historio.us was by a group known as Stochastic Tech. The group wanted to find a better way to help users save their favorite bookmarks. By viewing the process as a history, Historious was designed to help users create organized lists of their favorite online locations. Today, Historious is very easy to use and provides a better way to manage a very simple daily task.
The overall simplicity of Historious is a big mark in the application’s favor. Adding the Historious bookmarklet couldn’t be any easier. Users simply drag and drop it onto their browser then begin browsing. Finding past websites is also easy. The user only needs to enter a keyword from the site to find it again. Of course, this is much like how a search works online, however the user’s Historious library of links narrows down the options so they find exactly what they are searching for.
The Historious website welcomes visitors with an elegant logo and fun red color scheme. The simplicity of the application is highlighted by the unique, fun appeal of its design. Everything is kept easy to use. The Historious button is small and un-intrusive when added to a browser but it is still not hard to find with its bold, red color.
Every plan offered by Historious includes support, cached pages, browser extensions and personal features. A user can create a basic account for free. This includes up to 300 Historified websites (which can be increased to 2,000 by referring friends), tag features, read and unread indicators and RSS feeds. For around $3 per month, the use can remove affiliate links and access date filtering tools, tag features while Historifying, and save unlimited websites. A yearly subscription option is available with all of the same features as the monthly, but a single yearly price of around $20.
Anyone who saves many websites to their bookmarks could appreciate Historious. Even casual users can register for a free account (although this will include affiliate links, so the user may prefer to stick with what they have rather than pay for the service). Historious is best for those who frequently save items to their bookmarks.
